God’s Refining Fire

Date

Pastor James Zaebst

I Corinthians 3:9:  Everyone who is saved is to labor together with God.  We are to team up with God as we build up the Body.  We are to do our part (Romans 10:9-14).  God does His part (John 6:44).

I Corinthians 3:10:  Paul is the Masterbuilder.  He is the chief constructor who has God’s plans; and he directs the work.  He did not create the plans himself (Galatians 1:11 and 12).  He is the foreman (Romans 11:13).

A Childlike Faith

Matthew 18:1-6:  Christ Jesus desires in each and every one of us a childlike faith.  A faith that trusts in God just as a small child trusts in their parents.  A small child, without understanding how it is done, knows that Mom and Dad love them and will keep them safe, secure, and will meet all their needs.

There are three truths we must believe to have childlike faith:

The Resurrection of Christ

Christ Jesus foretold of His Resurrection, but even His very closest followers did not understand it (Luke 18:31-34).

Those that loved Christ the most had no expectation that He might rise from the dead.  Following His crucifixion, they expected to visit His grave to pay their respects (Matthew 28:1).

They found the grave empty and an angel boldly proclaiming that Christ had risen from the dead, and this brought them great joy (Matthew 28:2-8).

The Importance of the Resurrection

Pastor James Zaebst

I Corinthians 15:1-4:  Our salvation hinges on the truthfulness of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.  Belief in this truth saves.

I Corinthians 15:5-10:  The eyewitness testimony of Christ’s resurrection is sufficient evidence that it happened just as described.

I Corinthians 15:12:  The liberals of Paul’s day attacked the teaching of a literal, physical, bodily resurrection of Christ from the dead.  Many still attack this truth today.

I Corinthians 15:13-17:  If Christ did not physically rise from the dead, then we are lost in our sins.

The Fruit of Denying God as Creator

Romans 1:18: The Atheistic Naturalists have seized control of Academia (The Institutes of Higher Learning). Their motive is the justification for, and the perpetuation of their sinful lifestyle (Philippians 3:18 and 19).

Exercising Great Faith in Terrible Times

Date

Pastor James Zaebst

We have a God who can speak worlds into existence out of nothing at all (Genesis 1:1); it is no wonder He can do great things with so little to work with.  He does not need or want the best or the brightest or those with tremendous talent (I Corinthians 1:26-31).

God wants ordinary people (like you and I) to step out with extraordinary faith and do amazing things.  The Bible is full of examples of ordinary people exercising amazing faith in terrible times.  It is easier to be faithful in the good times, but history is made when ordinary people are faithful in the worst of times.

Four Great Myths

Date

Pastor James Zaebst

These four great myths and peoples’ acceptance of them is steadily destroying our morality and our society.

1.) The Goodness of Man:  We are constantly being told that all people are basically good.  If we initially think anyone is bad, we just don’t understand them.
The Bible teaches just the opposite (Romans 3:9-18 and Jeremiah 17:9).  Man is universally depraved and only God is good (Mark 10:17-18).

Satanic Warfare

Pastor James Zaebst

In Acts 13:6-12 Paul and Barnabas were ministering in Paphos on the Island of Cyprus. Once there they were opposed by a Sorcerer and False Prophet called Barjesus or Elymas. The Sorcerer attempted to prevent Paul’s ministry to the Deputy Sergius Paulus. Sergius desperately wanted to hear Paul and Paul wanted to minister to him. Elymas did all he could to stop it from happening and Paul under the inspiration calls Elymas a “child of the devil”. Paul knew he was not merely battling a Sorcerer he was at war with Satan himself.

Thanking God For Tribulation

Date
03-05-2017
Pastor James Zaebst

I Thessalonians 5:18:  We are told to give thanks for everything. Everything means both that which is good and that which is bad.  All that happens to us is in accord with God’s sovereign will.  To fail to thank God for all is to fail to trust that He knows best.

Romans 8:28:  God uses all things both good and bad “according to His purpose”.  God has a purpose in every single bit of tribulation He allows into our lives.
