Setting Proper Standards

Date

Pastor James Zaebst

Matthew 7:1 and 2:  At first glance, we have what might appear to be a prohibition against making moral judgments.  It is not a prohibition against making judgments  at all.  It is a reminder that any standard that we set for the behavior of others will be applied to us as well.  If I set a standard for others, they will in turn hold me to that same standard.  Sin is sin and it displeases God (Psalm 7:11).  We should never excuse sin (Isaiah 5:20).

Hebrews 10:10:
It is God’s will that we are made holy only through Christ’s work on the cross. (John 3:14).
He died one time for all men. He bore the sins of all men.
What defense could be offered for that multitude of sin
(John 19:9-11)?

Hebrews 10:11:
The effect of the earthly priest’s work was temporary.
Hebrews 10:1-4: The sacrificial system only covered the sin. They had to be offered again and again and again.

I Corinthians 3:9:  Everyone who is saved is to labor together with God.  We are to team up with God as we build up the Body.  We are to do our part (Romans 10:9-14).  God does His part (John 6:44).

I Corinthians 3:10:  Paul is the Masterbuilder.  He is the chief constructor who has God’s plans; and he directs the work.  He did not create the plans himself (Galatians 1:11 and 12).  He is the foreman (Romans 11:13).

A Childlike Faith

Matthew 18:1-6:  Christ Jesus desires in each and every one of us a childlike faith.  A faith that trusts in God just as a small child trusts in their parents.  A small child, without understanding how it is done, knows that Mom and Dad love them and will keep them safe, secure, and will meet all their needs.

There are three truths we must believe to have childlike faith:

The Resurrection of Christ

Date

Pastor James Zaebst

Christ Jesus foretold of His Resurrection, but even His very closest followers did not understand it (Luke 18:31-34).

Those that loved Christ the most had no expectation that He might rise from the dead.  Following His crucifixion, they expected to visit His grave to pay their respects (Matthew 28:1).

They found the grave empty and an angel boldly proclaiming that Christ had risen from the dead, and this brought them great joy (Matthew 28:2-8).

The Importance of the Resurrection

Date
04-09-2017
Pastor James Zaebst

I Corinthians 15:1-4:  Our salvation hinges on the truthfulness of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.  Belief in this truth saves.

I Corinthians 15:5-10:  The eyewitness testimony of Christ’s resurrection is sufficient evidence that it happened just as described.

I Corinthians 15:12:  The liberals of Paul’s day attacked the teaching of a literal, physical, bodily resurrection of Christ from the dead.  Many still attack this truth today.

I Corinthians 15:13-17:  If Christ did not physically rise from the dead, then we are lost in our sins.
