I Thessalonians 1:5: Our Gospel came unto you. They had received the Gospel and were saved as a result. The Thessalonians were a soul-winning church, they did not just take from other congregations (II Corinthians 10:15 and 16). They took their ambassadorship seriously (II Corinthians 5:20).
I Thessalonians 1:6: You became followers of us. Believers were being discipled in the faith. The Word was being faithfully taught and people were growing (I Peter 2:2 and Acts 20:32).
I Thessalonians 1:7: You were (became) an example to others. They were living in such a way as to set a Godly example of a believer. We are all to live as a Godly example (Matthew 5:14-16 and II Timothy 4:12).
I Thessalonians 1:8: You sounded out the Word. They were actively preaching and teaching the Word of God. They were not getting distracted. Only the Word saves (II Timothy 3:15). Only the Word can transform hearts and minds (Titus 3:5).
I Thessalonians 1:9: You turned to God to Serve God. They were actively working and serving the Lord. Everyone has an opportunity to serve and should do so (Romans 12:3-8). No one is saved in order to do nothing (Ephesians 2:8-10).
I Thessalonians 1:10: They were waiting for His Son. They were living their lives in full anticipation that Christ Himself could come for them at any moment (Titus 2:12 and 13).
